After an Anniversary
03:51
|
|||
I walk beside her til the morning and the sun
But we say goodbye and I leave alone
And in my recounting of the things she says to me
I only find the incongruities
I think of her leaving to someplace far from here
And all turns to smoke what once I found so clear
Will it be a deprivation
As I watch the days go by?
Or should I throw it all
To the wayside?
I didn't go outside today and I've been known to plead
Thank God I'm not as easy as I appear to be
Bid adieu to boyish days clung to long ago
Love on and hate on and don't repine so slow
Will it be in desperation
As I watch the days go by
Or should I throw it all
To the wayside
I walk beside her til the morning and the sun
But we say goodbye and I leave alone
I watch the clouds gathering again
What will be taken and what will remain?

The Hearing
02:28
|
|||
The sun will shine in and the dust will rise
For that old bleak note that comes warbling in
And though we grew up with a great many things
We will lose them all in The Hearing
From the top of the hill you could see young arrivals
And the elders beginning to climb
For though the town had many pleasures inside
There was a new city to find
Made into what the labor demands
But only one out of every few specks of you is filled
But to make yourself like a window in the wall
There is no fall out on that sill
It was all very good in that old neighborhood
But we were just locked in a reel

When I saw...
01:46
|
|||
When I saw those red-backed apples
I thought about your soul
The sun was rolling into the hills
To light their bellies with gold
Your voice was in the leaves like a Tom Thumb Wedding choir
And a million-handed angel plucking at one lyre
I could not stay away though the doormen told me to
But they showed me to a door and you know I walked right through
They said do not go too far in
And return here in the morning
For the souls beneath the snow
Eat cold decaying fruit

Looming Advent
02:31
|
|||
The new cycle began
Like a black cloud emptied
Something alchemic
Taking shape in the firelight
And your white teeth shining
But the memory is aged away
No I couldn't say, I couldn't say
And soon enough I'll
Forget the face
And what it said to begin
For all will leave with the season
The man in the tower's been sent
The memory though aged away
Through his fingers
To his brain
Now all around me
Everywhere
I could feel an advent looming
From far behind
And far up ahead
A peaceful early warning
Now mother will eat while her children sleep
And set the table for the morning

I awoke from a dream of you
Your beauty I could not align
Cause that's the job for a big, sturdy man
Not a scrawny mystical child
Now men tell me that money is good
And to walk in line with its stream
But where are they going
And how do they seem
Are they stumbling sleep-deprived
Or strolling in a dream?
But if I had the mind for that kind of thing
I'd render it all unto you
B. Alvarius knew the true name
Of every threshold diving to be born again
The bell was ringing with a sick perfection from within
All wise words were too up front to be selected
Now that's it be gone from my mind
I've taken your name from my spine
'Cause my weird old den is far from the glen
Where Springtime is eternal
And you stole my acumen
Now I have the mind for that kind of thing
But I'll render it all into dust

A Mage for All Seasons
02:07
|
|||
May is the time to meet with old age
Bread and water now will leave me
But I'll remake myself with conjuration
(Spoken)
Upon the threshold before the Summer
Up that crooked peak I'll climb
With hail and thunder on the bells and blowing through the chimes
The noise could birth a planet
Ooh ooh ah Uhhh YOU

Midwife of the Animals
02:17
|
|||
The midwife of the animals
No light below the trees
And she has hands that feel around
For mind and memory
The midwife of the animals
Lifts a burdened hand
But it does her good to know
They have a humane friend

Wobbling Mirror
03:12
|
|||
The best man in the worst of times calls his children
To his side
Each one has a secret
That he'd really like to steal
The father to his children spoke
Of an apparition in the haze
But it never showed itself
And so they went away
Now the pride of the father
Is a heavy-headed chore
The gathering clouds the wobbling mirror
White bluesman of the North
The figure to the father said
"They are resting in their beds
but they'll inform against you
when they wake up far away"
"And they'll call for another
as they open up their doors
for though you were kind sometime
it is not what you were for"
Between the lines of his skin
And to his phones they listened
By the water weary-eyed he thought to enter in
But when the sun began to sink
The riverside gave him a thought:
All toxins flowing together
Inside a rainbow rot

"I'd abolish royalty for the queen's sake"
That's what A.S. Neill said
But the storm is rising and the sun expands
No time to reverse the commands
Sky is wide and memories float away
Across the gutted land
Thinking on them will not bring them back
But try to stand in their way
(Right leg, left hand)
Green martyr crawling on the sand
(Right hand, left leg)
Pilgrim crawling through the waste
Jesus leaves to slay The Tyger
Then he returns to his cave
Gathers up wood in the dark
To make a fire on Christmas day
(Right leg, left hand)
Green martyr crawling on the sand
(Right hand, left leg)
Pilgrim crawling through the waste
